Post-Release Health Surveillance

Post-Release Health Surveillance
Detailed monitoring of the health of wild animals must continue after release when they are vulnerable to a range of threats. Health monitoring is closely aligned to population monitoring and a declining population is an indicator that intervention is required to investigate disease threats.
Increased behavioural observation is indicated followed by clinical examination or pathological examination as indicated by the findings. Post-release health surveillance provides important feedback to the disease risk analysis and for the health monitoring of future conservation translocations.
