About Wild
Animal Health
Disease risk analysis for conservation interventions and rewilding is a structured, science-based process used to identify, assess, and manage the potential health risks associated with wildlife translocations, species reintroductions, and habitat restoration efforts.
As rewilding and other conservation strategies increasingly involve moving animals across landscapes or reintroducing species into areas where they have been lost, there is a growing need to evaluate the potential for disease transmission both to and from the animals involved, as well as to other wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. Diseases arising from translocations are known to have led to species extinctions and therefore the threat is real.
